Casa de Lorena
This stunning owner-designed retreat is just steps away from the beach and features high ceilings, loads of light, and plenty of entertaining space on a gorgeously landscaped parcel of nearly two thirds of an acre.
Local artist Lorna Logan designed and built this three bedroom, two bath home with a separate one bedroom studio, with light, space, and entertaining in mind while highlighting the native landscape of Baja. Entering the partially walled, gated, and fully fenced property, you are surrounded by lush green palms, citrus, macadamia, loquat, mango trees, and more. The resulting effect is a private retreat in a quiet neighborhood, even though you’re only a short drive to the quaint shops, galleries, and restaurants of Todos Santos.
Up the walkway and you’re brought to an expansive patio with a water fountain and chiminea for gathering around a fire on chilly Baja nights. Continuing through the main entry door, you’re brought through the kitchen which features built-in shelving, two separate sinks, a dishwasher and pantry, with long windows looking out to the garden and opening onto a bar for outdoor seating. It opens onto the main entertaining space, which I’m told has featured lively dinner parties and bridge games with some of the area’s most prominent artists and musicians over the last fourteen years. The large open living room has floor to ceiling windows and sliding glass doors, perfect for allowing the ocean breeze to flow through the home.
Across the patio is one of two identical primary en-suite bedrooms, with huge windows and tall ceilings to keep the air cool on warm nights. A fan and brand new A/C unit in each bedroom assists with that, and the greenery outside the sliding doors that lead to a small patio make you feel like you’re in a treehouse. There’s plenty of space for a bed, sitting area and desk, plus built-in shelves and an attached walk-in closet, with a separated toilet/sink from the indoor/outdoor shower space, which make the bedrooms almost rentable as individual units.
Upstairs brings you to the other primary bedroom, identical to the one below but with an additional built-in shelf and hookups for a gas fireplace, plus a built-in closet. Outside on the massive deck, which has expansive views over the property and looks out over the ocean, there are built-in benches, plus a sink and electrical outlets which can easily be converted into a second full outdoor kitchen or additional entertaining space. Shade cloths can be strung between the buildings or a simple media sombre shade could be constructed. The other side of the deck has the office, which could be used as a third bedroom, and connects to an additional deck. The main house also includes a laundry room and bodega with plenty of storage.
Just off the main house is the one bedroom artist’s studio, which features a separate one bedroom, full bath, and a loft with large windows that open onto a deck. There is a sink and built-in shelves, so it could easily be used as a separate rental unit or guest casita. Also has two outdoor bodegas and a carport with its own separate driveway and gate.
The property also has a large one-car garage with a separate driveway and gate, with plenty of space for an ATV, bikes, surfboards and a workshop.
This property has so much heart and soul – you can feel the joy that’s been had, memories made, and art created here over the years. Make an appointment to see it today!
